Browsers & FTP programs

Most web designers I know, and even quite a few folks I know who aren’t designers, use the Firefox web browser created by the folks at Mozilla. I love this browser and all it’s cool Extensions you can add to it that makes it even more versitile. There are also themes you can download to change the colors/look of the browser. I love the tabbed browsing feature; instead of opening a new window for each web site you want to visit, you can open a new tab - which is within the same window. Just click the tab to go to the next web site. It helps make for less clutter when surfing and working on the computer.

Do yourself a favor, and download Firefox.

Now here’s a couple of extensions to use with your Firefox browser that I highly recommend:

  • IE Tab: this extension allows you to open a new Internet Explorer tab, within Firefox, so you can view pages/web sites as they appear in Internet Explorer. Very cool! And since a few web sites out there do not function well with Firefox (which they should!), having this handy IE Tab makes opening another whole browser and window, unnecessary. Download IE Tab
  • FireFTP: this is a must have for anyone! I highly recommend this for all of my web design clients who are using my T2 Easy Site or Store system and maintaining their own web sites. FTP software is file transfer protocol - essentially it is the software that you use to quickly and easily transfer files from your computer to your web hosting space and/or from your web hosting space back to your computer. You can transfer who folders to your site, all at one time, instead of having to individually upload each folder and then each file within the folder. This one is a must have! It is free to use, but the developers are asking for a donation, all of which goes to help orphanages overseas! A very worthy cause and a very useful tool. Download FireFTP

I know there are more cool extensions out there, some I think are more useful for designers or if you have a specific interest; but the above two are those I recommend for my design clients and anyone really.
