SEO: Linkbait
Are you struggling to get your site ranked in the search engines? Then you need to create linkbait. Link - what?! Linkbait is content that makes folks want to link to your site. It’s how you build backlinks to your site and help your site rank higher in the search engines.
One of the best ways to create linkbait is to blog. A blog is want you’re reading right now: an online web log of articles, commentary and/or information provided on any given topic. It’s usually best to have the topics on your blog pertaining to your site focus. This blog is about ecommerce web design primarily, but as this post will attest - I also do some SEO.
It’s great to build a wonderful web site, but if you don’t update it and keep adding new content to feed the search engine spider and to get people to continue adding links back to your site, you’re not likely to fare well overall in the search engines. Web sites are meant to be live, interactive mediums whereby you can connect with your site visitors. Whether you encourage comments to your blog posts or not, you need to provide fresh, ongoing information for your site visitors. Don’t let your site die choking on dust because it hasn’t been used by you or site visitors.
Get to writing, err, typing and post some new information on your site. You can do this with simple html pages, but using a blog system (like Word Press, which is what this site uses), makes the task easier and gives more options and features for you and your site visitors, like RSS feeds and the ability for interactive commentary on what you write.
So if you haven’t already started blogging - hop to it! You need to build those back links and linkbait is what you need.
