My personal favorite blogging software is WordPress. Not only can it effectively handle all your blogging needs, it can also be used as a content management system for an entire web site. And the fact that it’s open source and FREE is a bonus too. There are numerous plug-ins and themes available to make this software do just about everything but make your morning coffee.Most of the plugins and options are also free, but some are available for a fee, and usually those are worth it, if they offer features you need. But for straight blogging, you could get yourself up and running costing you only a little bit of time. One of the features that we love so much about WordPress is it’s template/theme system. It’s highly customizable and can be made to integrate well into your existing web site.
Blogs are also great search engine spider “food”. Search engines loves fresh content. The trend of the internet is now through fresh, live, RSS fed content. RSS is real simple syndication. It allows people to receive notice via an RSS reader (like my.yahoo.com) to learn when you’ve updated your site.
