Web Site Visitors or Paying Customers?

Okay, so now you’ve built the web site, so “show me the money”, as the saying goes. You’re getting some nibbles showing on your web site stats, are those site visitors turning into paying customers? If not, you need to take a step back and find out why. The following suggestions should help you identify any potential problem areas.

Web Site Analysis If your web site was built more than a year or two ago, it may need a redesign and some search engine optimization (SEO). I have learned a lot about SEO in the past two years, so even though you are a client of mine, your site may very well need some SEO assistance. Without a site that is properly optimized for your specific keyword phrases, you may be getting traffic, but it isn’t the traffic that is looking for what you have to offer - thus you will not receive sales from those site visitors.

Fresh, Link-Worthy Content Is Key Are You a Professional In Your Field of Business - then let others know it. I assume you all have attained a certain level of expertise in your areas of business, which is why you own your own business. Then why not let the world know and share your knowledge with others through articles on your web site. Search engines love fresh content. The search engines spiders visit web sites, and they know if content has been updated recently. If they visit a site time and time again, without any changes having been made to that site, the site can fall in the search engine rankings. I would suggest that you add a blog to your web site (a blog is simply software that adds a way for you to add articles to your web site), or add articles directly to a web page. Providing articles will offer content that site visitors will want to link to from their sites, this is also called link-bait. You want this content to be original content you have written, interesting and helpful for your target audience. If they see you as helpful and knowledgeable, that could turn them into paying customers.

Business Marketing In what ways are you marketing your business? Do you have an advertising budget? The concept of “build it and they will come” is not going to happen without real-life business marketing. Even if your business is only on the web, it is still a business and should be treated as such. That includes marketing: online and/or offline. You need to let the world know your business exists. There are billions of web sites on the world wide web, and many of those are also competing in your same market - you need to work at getting your business name (and web site address) in front of your target market - which are those folks who are interested in buying what you have to sell. A web site alone, without business marketing, is going to make for a web site without a lot of traffic. No traffic = no sales. I am not a business marketing expert; but I am a business owner and I know that I have to work my business on many levels, including, but not limited to, networking, advertising, flyers and yes, even newsletters like this one. If you would like a business marketing referral, contact me and I can provide you with a referral or two.

Time Simply put - it takes time to build a business, and that includes getting your site ranking well in search engines. Start with a good foundation (web analysis), continue with information that will keep them coming back (fresh content) and let the world know via multiple streams (business marketing) that you’re open for business! All this takes time. Since we can not all be professionals in every field of expertise our business needs to function (i.e. web designer, business marketing, accountant, administrative assistant, etc…) it may be in the best interest of time management for you to hire other professionals to handle aspects of your business that they could do best; leaving you to do what you do best: run your business.

By following the above steps, you will be well on the road to greater success for your business. As always, Titus 2 Web Studios is here to help YOU succeed.
